New car registrations in the UK rose for the eighth consecutive month in March, up more than 17% from a year earlier, according to preliminary industry data released Wednesday.

According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), it was the largest month ever for battery-electric car registrations.

The SMMT will release the final figures for the month at 0900 GMT.
