Just Eat Takeaway plans to cut 1,700 jobs in the UK, according to The Telegraph. Meal delivery workers at the British service Just Eat are particularly affected, but around 170 office jobs are also disappearing. The move is part of a cost-cutting measure by the Dutch-British company.
British Just Eat employed its own delivery workers in six cities. In doing so, the service tried to distinguish itself from other companies in the so-called ‘gig economy’, such as taxi services such as Uber, other meal delivery companies such as Deliveroo and flash delivery companies such as Gorillas and Getir. But Just Eat now wants to work with independent deliverers.
A spokesman for Just Eat told the newspaper that “Just Eat UK is reorganising and simplifying its delivery operations”. The company states that there are no consequences for the service.
