Growers are outraged that Sainsbury’s, among others, cut the price of potatoes in the run-up to Christmas. British white potatoes can be bought at the Big 4 supermarkets for 21 cents for a 2.5 kg pack, while Aldi and Lidl have made offers of 21 cents for a whole range of vegetables and have also made a sale of 1 cent for fresh and frozen vegetables.
As a result of the price drops, growers and consumers on Twitter fear that this will reduce the value of vegetables, while growers deal with additional inflationary pressures, according to reports from Farming Guardian.
