Inflation expected by public pools

The British public expects inflation to rise to 4.9% over the next year, up from 4.6% in May, and the highest since measurements began in 1999, a Bank of England survey showed on Thursday.

The survey was conducted between August 5 and 8, before new prime minister Liz Truss took office and announced plans to curb the rise in household energy tariffs.

Longer – term inflation expectations – which tend to worry BoE policymakers more-fell from 3.5% to 3.1%.
