Nvidia will not leave without a fight, as the British Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport sees a possible risk to state security in the acquisition. This was revealed on Monday by a message from the ministry.
Nvidia wants to buy ARM from SoftBank. For this, Nvidia is willing to pay $ 12 billion in cash and another $ 21.5 billion in shares. If certain targets are met after the acquisition, SoftBank can expect a further $ 5 billion. Nvidia will also spend $ 1.5 billion in shares on ARM employees.
The British government decided to intervene for the sake of national security. The Competition Authority CMA is conducting an investigation and will make a report available no later than 30 July this year.
Earlier this year, the UK regulator, like the European regulator, already announced an investigation into the acquisition plans.
