Boris Johnson ‘knows for sure’ how to build a tunnel between Scotland and Northern Ireland

Boris Johnson is considering the construction of a tunnel linking Scotland to Northern Ireland, reporting several media on Monday. The tunnel should be 25 miles long and should ensure that trade between Northern Ireland and other parts of the United Kingdom will be more smooth.

Since 1 January, the United Kingdom has also ceased technically to be part of the EU. Northern Ireland is therefore in a difficult position. Northern Ireland belongs to the same kingdom as England, Wales and Scotland, but borders Ireland which is still part of the EU. At the same time, Scotland and Northern Ireland are separated by the Irish Sea.

As a result, trade has been less smooth since the Brexit. A tunnel for both trains and trucks should partly solve this problem. It must lie between the Northern Irish town of Larne and the Scottish Stranraer. The plan has already been nicknamed ” Boris’s Burrow.” Freely translated, Boris ‘ lair.

Alister Jack, who deals with Scottish Affairs on behalf of the British Cabinet, has already told The Telegraph that he is in favour of the plan. Within a few weeks, the British Rail Network Rail operator will present a report on the feasibility of the plan.

Johnson came up with plans for a bridge between Northern Ireland and Scotland three years ago. This turned out not to be a good idea, partly because the connection would probably have to be closed for about a hundred days a year due to the weather conditions on the Irish Sea.
