London jumps nine positions up and is now the eighth most expensive city for expats

Hong Kong remains the most expensive city in the world for foreign workers. This is evident from the rankings that the HR company Mercer annually draws up on an annual basis.

London is the largest riser in the top regions of the rankings. Last year, the capital was in 17th place. According to Mercer, the general costs of living and the rents have gone up in particular.

Hong Kong precedes the Asian city-state of Singapore. Four Swiss cities will follow: Zurich, Geneva, Basel and Bern. The top ten of the most expensive cities is further completed by New York (USA), London (United Kingdom), Nassau (Bahamas) and Los Angeles (USA).

In the Nigerian city of Abuja, life is the cheapest for expats, according to the research.

For the ‘Cost of Living’ index, the prices of more than 200 goods and services are compared, including housing, transport, food, clothing, household items and entertainment. There are 226 cities in the survey.
