Prime minister of the United Kingdom Rishi Sunak does not consider it necessary to launch an investigation into home secretary Suella Braverman. Sunak said this in a letter to the minister. Braverman allegedly violated the ministerial code of conduct by engaging officials on a private matter.
The interior minister had to take a driving skills course after a speeding ticket last year. Braverman allegedly asked officials to arrange a private course so that no one would find out that she had to take that course. When that failed, Braverman chose to pay a replacement fine, which also gave her penalty points on her driver’s license.
According to Sunak, Braverman did not violate the ministerial code of conduct. The prime minister did point out that it would have been better if Braverman had acted differently to “avoid the appearance of impropriety”. In a letter to Sunak, Braverman agrees that she should have accepted the fine immediately. In the letter, Braverman also apologizes for the commotion her actions caused.
