Retail chain news: Veganuary success, CMA investigation and the new shop in Tolworth

CMA deepens investigation into Morrisons acquisition deal, fuel price concerns. The Competition and Markets Authority has launched an investigation into the acquisition of the Morrisons supermarket chain by Clayton, Dubilier & Rice. Clayton, Dubilier & Rice Holdings (CD&R) has taken Morrisons off the London Stock Exchange through the transaction of 8.3 billion euros, which was completed in October. The CMA will investigate whether the billion-dollar deal will result in higher fuel prices at petrol pumps in the UK.

TESCO Veganuary’s sales have skyrocketed thanks to the introduction of a new plant-based meal deal, Tesco said. Wicked Kitchen was the first plant-based range launched in 2018 in partnership with a UK supermarket.

Lidl has opened its new UK headquarters in Tolworth. After 3 years of construction, the supermarket chain has opened the new state-of-the-art 23,225 m2 building, which is designed to accommodate the 800-strong headquarters team, with even more room to grow.
