The British Government urgently wants to consult with the bosses of the energy companies in the country, because of the sharply rising gas prices. As a result, the bill of consumers and companies threatens to explode in the following months.
British economy minister Kwasi Kwareng has Monday scheduled a meeting with the top people of the energy suppliers. According to the British newspaper The Times, lower taxes and more flexible environmental obligations would be on the table. Kwareng, who is also responsible for energy policy, already had individual talks with the CEOs.
Due to the sharply increased gas price in recent months, the bill of families and companies everywhere in Europe is exploding. The price increases cannot simply be calculated in the United Kingdom: the energy regulator Ofgem has to give its approval twice a year. The next revision is scheduled for April. In the UK, several energy suppliers have already gone overboard.
