Valery Gartung ‘opposes’ the war in Ukraine, supplies Russian army with the munitions to kill Ukrainians

Valery Gartung, a shamelessly rich Russian oligarch, tries to follow the proverb ‘don’t put all your eggs in one basket’. He invests in Russian weapon factories while at the same time denounces the Russian aggression against Ukraine. The reason for such stance is obvious: while keeping his proceedings in the West he keeps earning them in Russia.

The family of the State Duma (lower house of Russian parliament) deputy Gartung launches a factory for the production of weapons and ammunition. The parliamentarian had earlier opposed the war. It seems that he tries to be nice for the both sides of conflict, while making profits out of it.

The wife of a member of the faction “Sparavedlivaya Rossiya” in the State Duma Valery Gartung, Marina Gartung, as well as the deputy’s sons — Andrey and Dmitry — established LLC “Plant of Modern Precision Engineering Technologies”. The information is confirmed by an extract from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities. The main declared activity of the plant is the production of weapons and ammunition. Also in the list of possible activities are the production of military combat vehicles, processing of metal products and others.

The formal founder is the Chelyabinsk Forging and Pressing Plant (CHKPZ), and the beneficiary are Maria, Andrey and Dmitry Gartung, who own the CHKPZ. In addition, Andrey Gartung holds the post of CEO of the new plant. The deputy himself, after falling under the sanctions of the European Union, left the board of directors of CHKPZ and transferred his share to his wife.

At the same time, at the end of February, just a few days after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Valery Gartung spoke out against the war.

“I absolutely agree that military actions should be stopped as soon as possible, because people are dying on both sides. It doesn’t matter what language they speak — it’s a huge tragedy. The Duma made the decision to recognize the LPR and the DPR (separatist regions around Lugansk and Donetsk) with only one goal: to stop the war in the Donbass, which has been going on for eight years! There was no talk of any other military actions in the Duma!” the deputy wrote then.
