ARM’s workforce has shrunk by 18% over the past year. In the United Kingdom in particular, many jobs have been cut as part of a global reorganization.
The reorganization was announced by ARM in March via an internal email to employees. Then CEO Rene Haas spoke of a loss of 12 to 15 percent of jobs. However, this was 18 percent in practice, the Financial Times reports.
1,250 employees left in a year
In total, about 1,250 employees left ARM in a year. This involves 700 employees in the United Kingdom (UK). In the rest of the world, 550 jobs have been lost.
When SoftBank acquired the British ARM in 2016, the Japanese company promised to double ARM’s workforce in the UK. In September 2021, this actually succeeded; the number of British employees then amounted to more than 3,500 compared to 1,770 in 2016. At the moment, around 2,800 British employees would still be employed by ARM.
