Some 2,300 jobs will be lost in Germany, 1,300 in the UK and 200 in the rest of Europe. Ford plans to cut some 3,800 jobs over the next three years; these are mainly jobs in product development and administration.
According to Automotive News Europe, the news hits hard at the trade unions, who previously assumed that it would be about less job losses. According to the car maker, the slimming down is necessary, as the company is dealing with rising costs and the shift to electric drive vehicles. Ford aims to offer a fully electric fleet of passenger cars and light vans in Europe by 2035.
Job loss
Of the 3,800 jobs, 2,300 will disappear in Cologne and Aachen, Germany. It involves 1,700 places in product development and around 600 administrative jobs. In the UK it is about a job loss of around 1,300 and in the rest of Europe about two hundred.
