Vegetable prices skyrocket due to rising energy costs in the UK

The price of vegetables will rise in the UK as the cost of living crisis worsens. Some produce even double in price, making everyday items less affordable for the British. Cucumbers, now around 60p, could well rise above £1 (€1.16) next year if energy prices for vegetable growers continue to rise.

Tesco chairman John Allan has warned that huge price increases could lead to more thefts by “desperate people” who cannot afford food:

“I think shoplifting is a concern, and police should take action and respond to cases… this is a concern across the retail sector. I have no sympathy for people who commit shoplifting, but I can understand that desperate people take desperate measures, sometimes when they literally run out of money.”
