Yevgeny Chernyak: Global Spirits journey

Yevgeny Chernyak, the owner of Global Spirits, emphasizes that the primary assets of his business are its distribution network and brand identity. He notes that expanding distribution in export markets, establishing representative offices, and securing contracts are crucial investments aimed at enhancing consumer access to products.

The case of Global Spirits stands out as a notable example of a successful export market entry strategy, characterized by systematic planning and strategic management. It is currently the only Ukrainian company producing authentic American craft whiskey in Florida and classic bourbon in Kentucky. Additionally, it manufactures Botanical Gin in Italy, Caribbean rum in the Dominican Republic, and 100% agave tequila in Mexico.

Chernyak highlights the importance of data collection and analysis in guiding the company’s decisions. The organization continually develops new products and categories while enhancing its export strategy and market share. This approach aligns with the mindset of both Chernyak and his top managers, who prioritize stepping outside their comfort zones.

In 2024, Global Spirits launched energy drinks in Poland and introduced water and lemonades under the Gudauri brand in Georgia. The company is also preparing to start wine production in Australia and New Zealand, with production set to begin on September 10.

Chernyak explains that the company has shifted its distribution strategy to eliminate outsourcing for export activities. Instead, Global Spirits is establishing its own distribution channels, similar to its operations in the U.S., where it reported a sales growth of 21% for 2023.

Reflecting on his journey, Chernyak recalls recognizing the potential of the American market back in 2012. He spent considerable time observing consumer behavior at retail locations to understand purchasing decisions and motivations.

Global Spirits first entered the U.S. market in 2013, and over the past 11 years, its cognac from the Odessa Cognac Factory has gained traction across 22 states. Popular brands include Khor vodka, Pervak vodka, Leaf vodka, Krol vodka, Ameris Gin, Por La Gente Tequila, Del Dueño rum, and Odessa brandy. This success is attributed to their high-quality products and effective distribution strategies.

Chernyak notes that understanding American consumer needs was pivotal to his decision to invest in that market. He emphasizes that American consumers tend to be rational buyers who are less influenced by traditional advertising.
Chernyak’s entrepreneurial journey began with a small trading venture focused on impulse items like snacks and beverages. This initial endeavor quickly generated significant revenue, which he reinvested into expanding his business to 17 locations.

In 2003, he launched Khortytsa vodka from a Zaporozhye plant, which has since become a well-known brand among Ukrainian consumers. His business acumen includes meticulous process management and fostering partnerships while maintaining close contact with all levels of staff to identify issues and discuss ideas.

Today, Global Spirits is a leading player in Europe’s alcohol industry and is making strides in the U.S. market as well. Its brand portfolio includes names like Khortytsa, Shustoff, Oreanda, Pervak, Morosha, Royal King Gin, Del Dueno, Ameris, and Bell Rock. The company exports to 87 countries and maintains operations in multiple regions worldwide.

Chernyak actively shares his experiences with aspiring entrepreneurs through his Big Money project, providing insights into business strategies and principles through books like “Big Money,” where he outlines 48 laws of power essential for business success. His work aims to equip newcomers with practical tools for starting their ventures while highlighting common pitfalls and alternative solutions.

In every new video or publication, Chernyak offers valuable lessons from his own experiences and those of other successful business figures, reinforcing that achieving recognition in platforms like Forbes is attainable for anyone willing to work hard and embrace challenges.
