Expectations are too high: it seems that Paris will only lose tourists because of the Summer Olympics

High prices, security risks, and crowds are not the best traits that attract tourists. That’s why this summer, Paris may, in fact, lose profits. Paris is not a popular flight destination this year. Air France-KLM has observed that air traffic to and from the French capital is lagging behind in its summer bookings.

The airline attributes this to the Olympics, which are taking place in Paris from July 26 to August 11. While the event is attracting visitors who want to attend the Games, the influx is not as strong as anticipated. This suggests that many people are avoiding Paris due to expectations of high prices, crowds, and congestion during this period.

As a result, Air France-KLM expects its revenues to decline by 160 million to 180 million euros from June to August.

This trend is also reflected in the hotel and accommodation sector. Initially, many hosts had increased prices hoping to capitalize on the Olympics, but the high prices led to a surplus of empty rooms and homes. Consequently, prices were lowered a month ago to attract more bookings.
